- McBarnette
flying high again: Sterling resident Bruce McBarnette won his
12th national track and field title Saturday at the USA Track
and Field National Masters Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii.
McBarnette cleared 6 feet, 5 inches in the high jump to win the
national crown in the ages 45-49 group. McBarnette, a two-time
world champion, has a best performance of 7 feet, 1 inch.
- Franklin
honored: Loudoun County High School graduate Lena Franklin was
named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the
2004-05 academic year, in recognition of outstanding academic
accomplishment while competing in intercollegiate athletics. Franklin,
a junior at the University of Georgia, also received the Sportsmanship
Award for the Bulldogs women's soccer team.
- Golf: In
celebration of National Golf Month in August, the Northern Virginia
Regional Park Authority is offering $10 off green fees Monday
through Thursday at Algonkian Golf Course in Sterling and Brambleton
Golf Course in Ashburn. Golfers must print out an online coupon
