World Champion and Actor Speaks to High School Graduates in Reston, VA

WASHINGTON, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Bruce McBarnette, a World Champion athlete, attorney, and actor from Sterling, VA, was the key note speaker for Senior Appreciation Reception at Southgate Community Center in Reston, VA on June 25. McBarnette, who has won 8 World Track and Field Championships and 22 USA national championships for his age group in the high jump, spoke about methods of achieving success.

Senior Appreciation Reception was an event that celebrated the achievements of recent high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds. It was sponsored by Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and Reston Interfaith, a not-for-profit social services organization.

"I always like to help people achieve their dreams. Many people help me achieve mine," said McBarnette who is a sought after public speaker.

Jacqueline Phan, one of the event organizers said, "The kids responded well to Mr. McBarnette's comments about making the most of what they have." Phan organizes events for Reston Interfaith, as well as for a number of other organizations in the metropolitan area.

McBarnette is a member of the USA Track and Field hall of fame. He has also broken over a dozen USA and World high jump records for his age group.

In addition to his athletic achievements, McBarnette is also president of the real estate investment firm, Summit Connection LLC.

As a public speaker and faculty member of Northern Virginia Community College and Montgomery College; McBarnette has spoken about health, real estate, exam preparation, and success to thousands of people in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. He has been interviewed often on TV by CBS News.

In addition to track and field, McBarnette is an actor and had roles on TV shows such as West Wing, The Wire, Law and Order, as well as several movies.

As a philanthropist, he has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities and has hosted charitable events at many embassies in Washington, DC.

McBarnette, a graduate of Princeton University and New York University Law School, was a former legal counsel to the United States Senate, a former senior counsel for Fannie Mae, and a former Judge Advocate attorney for the US Army.
